The Most Boring Essays Ever

19 Oct

After we’ve worked together as a class to define some of the most boring essay topics ever on Corkboard.me (http://corkboard.me/OMmTAGXWdo), you will select one– preferably the one that sounds the most boring to you– and attempt to make it interesting.

Step one: Write an introduction, trying to make this boring topic interesting.

Step two: You will select a role out of the bag. Without erasing your first paragraph, begin a new paragraph. Your goal is to rewrite the introduction from the perspective you have selected, while still keeping it interesting, of course.

Step three: You will pick an audience from the bag. Without erasing either of the already-written paragraphs, rewrite the introduction from the perspective you were given (your role) aimed at a target audience. For instance, you might be writing about how to tie your shoes (topic) from the perspective of a travel writer (role) for Britney Spears (audience).

You will have 10-15 minutes for each paragraph. Take your time. Most important, HAVE FUN and BE CREATIVE! This is a chance to play with language and be silly.
